The High Line

Next time you don’t make a section, it’s possible that your line of trim was too low.

Most of a wave’s speed is up in the top third. Here it’s more concave, therefore steeper. Steepness creates speed. It even looks a different colour up high like a shadow cast from a tall building. Have a look next time.

Gravity causes surfers to drop downwards. Therefore it’s common to see beginners at the bottom of the wave getting left behind, intermediates cruising the mid-face and the pros banking off the very highest part of the face at high speed.

So on your next wave – aim higher.
